Rex Pace

About

Rex J. Pace is a nationally recognized accessible design expert with more than 35 years of experience creating built environments that work effectively for people with disabilities. He currently serves as Senior Technical Advisor - Codes and Standards with theACCESSpartnership, lp. Prior to joining the firm, he served as Senior Advisor for Accessible Design at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), focusing on implementation and compliance with the Fair Housing Act, Section 504, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the Architectural Barriers Act (ABA).

Rex previously served as the National Accessibility Officer at the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) and managed the technical assistance program at the U.S. Access Board, where he co-led rulemaking to establish standards for accessible medical diagnostic equipment. His earlier federal service includes the U.S. Department of Justice Disability Rights Section, where he worked on enforcement and technical assistance, including the adoption and implementation of the 2010 ADA Standards.

He began his career as an illustrator at Barrier Free Environments, Inc., under the mentorship of Ron Mace, FAIA, a pioneer of accessible and universal design, and later carried this work forward at the Center for Universal Design.  Rex is known for translating complex regulatory requirements into clear, practical, and buildable design solutions that help housing providers, designers, developers, and public agencies make better accessibility decisions.
