About

My goals as an engineering designer is to ensure accessibility for all, breaking the thought process of maintaining minimums. I have set more stringent requirements for myself exceeding the accessible standards of designs, allowing for contractor error while ensuring accessibility. I have always wanted to help disadvantaged communities, finding the world of accessibility has been rewarding as well as a new learning curve to overcome. I had the opportunity to attend the 2024 national ADA symposium, hearing from industry leaders as well as end users cemented my desire to dedicate my time and represent a community that is, at times, overlooked. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, when the Gang of 19 protested for the right to access the new RTD fleet, it marked a pivotal yet challenging period for the ADA community. Their efforts brought to light significant barriers, such as inadequate accessibility at intersections and the drastic measures required, like using sledgehammers to modify curb returns. These bold actions were instrumental in raising public awareness and pushing for change. Inspired by their legacy, I aim to stay at the forefront of technological and design innovations, ensuring accessibility remains a priority.
